I would say that if you’re anything like me, you didn’t pay a whole lot of attention in chemistry class. That is something that we all thought, let me get a passing grade and I’ll never have to think of the periodic table or pH paper every again. Right? Well I bet you didn’t know that knowing your acidic level can make a big difference in your weight and overall health. For those of you who don’t remember what a pH level is, it is the measurement of the acidity and alkaline of any particular substance. A scale runs from 0 to 14 the lower the number the higher the level of alkalinity. A level 7 is neutral.

Now what does this all have to do with your health? We have acid in our stomach, and it needs to contain a certain level in order to function properly. It helps with our metabolism, enzymatic and immune systems and helps our body repair quicker.

So what causes a pH imbalance? With your general health it boils down to having an excess acid within our bodies. This can impact your overall health, but it also plays a huge role in our progress and overall ability to lose weight. The lightbulb come on yet? High acid levels are generally the culprit to hormone imbalances, which is why women going through menopause, generally see weight gain instead of weight loss.

So what other affects can we see from high pH levels? Other than the women in our lives changing mood every 5 minutes? Well here are a few:

· Slow metabolism and weight gain

· Chronic inflammation

· High blood pressure

· Diabetes

· Bladder and kidney issues

· Premature aging

· Slow digestion

· Yeast and/or fungal overgrowth

· Joint pain

· Low energy and or fatigue

There are several nutritional factors that come into play with these conditions, and if you are looking to alleviate some of your pain from one of the above mentioned ailments then you should talk to your doctor about your acidic levels. Ask them to show you how to test your own levels using pH paper strips, how to read them, and ask what you can do from home to manage the levels.

There are more and more things we can do from home to change the way we live and our overall health. It is important to know what you can do to make genuine health changes in your life.
